...found this wooden "&" at Listmann, a craftshop I usually visit and couldn't resist its cirves and simple beauty. There! It found its place , resting under the shade of the Lack's lamp " umbrella ". In case you like the wallpapered box- drawer and the paper lantern, you may find more about them here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ivy_style33/3992035589/in/set-72157622541736282 http://www.flickr.com/photos/ivy_style33/3992794104/in/set-72157622541736282 http://www.flickr.com/photos/ivy_style33/3992795266/in/set-72157622541736282
4 seasons - good reasons...charity plates
A towel with a bear face for him, to enjoy comfortable changing hours...
...the sleepy cow holding the reminder " Mangez bien avec amour " is keeping company to the other cow, displayed on the ice-cream paper container I had extra asked for - empty & clean - when I bought some ice - cream somewhere in Brussels.. back in 2001...oh boy...does time fly fast!?
and that one!
...I just placed the upholstered bench in the sofa area to take pictures, as it was a cloudy day and I could use all the natural light possible coming from the big window. I hope for some sunshine soon to make pictures in the dining area, there where it is used.

Blogged here: http://www.busybeesisblogging.blogspot.com/2010/02/as-simple-as-it-gets Picture taken yesterday in late afternoon ....using mostly already existing furniture from our previous homes and spending as less money as possible ( so that most can be invested in gaining experiences through often travelling) were the drawing lines for making this Penthouse a home. My things arrived by track from Greece almost 2 years ago. So let's see how it goes from what is seen here: His: -> two piece sofa corner (Ikea) -> wheeled coffetable legs, which were added to a new surface from Ikea. They were also wallpapered by me, for a little luxus look. Hers: -> 2x4 Expedit -> White flokati from Habitat -> Alseda stool from Ikea -> white, cotton curtains from Ikea -> Vintage Albert Van Luit wallaper found in an amazing shop's attic in Athens, among with a few oher rolls, that are mostly used in my crafts. -> base lamp from Ikea ->handmede brown pillow Bought together: -> Leran big cental pendant lamp (Ikea) -> Balck&white big cushion (x2) from Ikea
...and a cute, little wooden photo frame I brought from Mallorca ( x 5! ) for the cuttest baby boy : ) ...making a packet for my girlfriend in Greece with some baby stuff... : ) : )
...the hyacynths are finally revealing their beautiful levander colour....
Who doesn't love to cuddle and cocoon in bed with öot's of pillows?! From the front to the back: -> Handsewn from my mother upcycled pilllow, which was once a blouse of mine. The little deaails with the leather buttoned flowers are made by me. -> NYC pillow from H&M Home -> Blue pillowcase from Ikea ...and dark grey sheet ( of a fine quality I must say after all! ) from
Bookcase + balcony.
....made this picture while the bread was being toasted and the eggs were getting boiled, on one of this week's mornings... The sousplas ( placemats, Heather for you dear..yes you guessed right! ) were bought from Habitat for my very first apartment - a small bangalow ( I know I 'll have to scan pictures, as I only got my first digital camera until the next apartment ) and hadn't used them at all....they even had their tags on! As they are quite large, I fold them for breakfast in the middle and use them full for dinner meals.

Explore #442 Thank you : ) Different sizes of the same shape - circle - bonding together plastic, bamboo and pure silver....and bringing vintage, natural and modern style to what is percieved by me to be harmonious design...
...the curtains are drawn to provide some shade from the very bright sun, but stll light comes in and plays through the semicircular upper part of the big, high window... ...liked the repetition of curves here, from the form of the chair to the shades of light...
Curves.

...taken this Teusday, short after 9 a.m in the morning....this early sun rays bring out all the golden colour of this magic, vintage Albert Van Luit wallper from 1965... ...the light blue, patterned pillow is the same as seen in this picture http://www.flickr.com/photos/ivy_style33/4316366510 only it's other side... ...the metal legs of the coffeetable have been covered with the "India" , vintage albert Van Luit wallpaper... ...the olives trees have been cut and brought inside, hoping that they are just collecting energy to flourish in Spring again..
....playing with the window's lines and curves...
may it have... * the freshness of crisp air and pretty flowers... * the sweetness of sugar... * the warmth of a cup of tea... ...and may we celebrate life & love on every occasion possible... ...perceiving love mostly as openess, clearness inside, forgiveness and going beyond our selfish existences....as loving ourselves differentiates much from and shouldn't be mistaken for having room ONLY for ourselves... ...to the eternal seekers of happiness, please stop...and look inside...happiness, love and light are here and now....no better house will bring it, no better or more possesions...for all these can be taken away...and the only thing that matters and will always be with us...is...US...ourselves...who we are, what we think, what we've learned, what we've offered and what we've said.... ....so let's mind the words we use....as they can bring lots of happiness or unhappiness to others....and had we done something wrong...apologising and acting towards a positive direction will fix the harm done....
...in the little things of daily life.... ...such as a fabric that cheers us up... ...flowers we like... ...activities we enjoy...
Flowers on the shelf
...the Penthouses's sofa corner today.
blogged here: http://www.mydesignfolder.com/?p=3622 This is made from 1960's vintage, Albert Van Luit wallpaper and pages of the German, vintage book " Die Kleine Hexe ". It'll be soon available in the Etsy shop. You can have a better look at it here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ivy_style33/4194715000/in/set-72157622898591239/
..living together and a group of three black/chalkboards. Only the one that is unwritten is a real one. The other two are actually black thick paper pieces, on which I 've written with a white pen / pencil.
...reflections of me in the love mirrors....yesterday...
Helmer... I love this gentleman!...giving nice shelter to things needing it so much! Well, this isn't the best picture I could take...so I 'll make a new one soon, showing also the whole area.

...isn't always easy...no matter what it is...but then...what is easy in life? ...it's up to us to make things easy or difficult... ...and making things easy, sometimes invloves seriously hard work... ...on various levels...practical, psychological, personal, social... ...I'm striving to reach at this point of easiness... ...by gaining discipline....oh my! is that hard!... ...but SO rewarding when it happpens! ...to all of you who would possiply like the same... ...my best wishes and support : ) ...and to all of you, who are already there... ...my deepest respects.

....appear the big bamboo bowl and the white capsule box in the sunrays..that have just landed...no worries...they are friendly, peaceful and just visiting...
....under the bright, warm rays of afternoon sun...a week ago...
..pages of the German, vintage, children's book " Die kleine Hexe" ( The little witch) are covering ( only for today - safety reasons...when the candles approach the paper, I simply unctick its edges and remove the page) the two off white candles. Isn't she the cuttest little witch ever? ...so kind looking always..and caring...here feeding the fox or simply thinking about something, being sitted on the bench.... I love the illustrations of this book and it has quite a lot! All three candles are also decorated with stripes of vintage wallpaper as close to the bottom as possible, so that the candles can burn with safety for long. The lovely bouquete of white hyacinths was given to me yesterday : ) I used a big white Ikea "glass" to put them in...added some natural string and two off white hearts to add some...sweetness. This will last until my next more minimal phase arrives... ; ) I hope to have nice morning light soon to make more pictures of this corner! : )

...by the big, semicircular window bathed in light, despite the drawn curtains...
....I had just two small pieces of my favorite papers, big enough though to cover the two simple glasses we no longer use ( new ones have come to the home's life, since a while ). Instead of remaining unused, as they did for some weeks, they now glow beautifully at night, holding tealights inside. They look equally nice during the day though.
..an ablsolute minimal, tiny, square shelf is used for displaying occassional favorite objects. Lately, a small vase and candleholder collection lives there. For a more detailed view, please see here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ivy_style33/4277982973/in/set-72157623302759922
..a rather bizare half cup, white, porcelain tile ( holding nothing more than a wooden branch found by the sea) is put on the other side of the Love mirrors to provide some sort of optical balance. Still it had to not aquire much space, as the bench of the one seating side is exactly underneath...therefore human movement shouldn' t be disturbed. For a view of the bench, which is a DIY, repurpose project, please click here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ivy_style33/4346089061/in/set-72157623302759922 and here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ivy_style33/4325974964/in/set-72157621152893577

Concerning the number, seven are: -> the days of the week... -> the wonders of the world... -> the energy points in our bodies (chakras)... -> 7th is the letter of the Greek alhphabet, with which my name begins ( H = "itta" ) -> 7 holds a certain magic in it for a for a reason... ...any other suggestions/ facts? ...what other is 7?
Shiny dishes.
This is one of the pictures I made ,when I was photographing for the " Style your way " post. http://www.flickr.com/photos/ivy_style33/4343473320/in/set-72157623302759922 As I'm collecting here different versions of the same areas of our tiny Penthouse, this is added as another possibility of the lounge/sofa area....ok...there was plenty of sunlight so the candles and tiny lights were actually temporarily lit just for the pictures.
Striking light.
blogged at htp://www.busybeesisblogging.blogspot.com ....just wanting to emphasize, that the most important thing for all of us, is to find our own personal style... ...not only in our homes but also in dressing ourselves...and actually in every aspect of living and life. Eating, thinking, behaving, travelling...everything that is part of life! I now it's hard in the era of multi media and trends and "musts"...but being creative, honest to ourselves and engaging into activities that help us learn more about who we really are, are good antidotes. So,yes, to being inspired by any means and in every manner.... And mostly a big YES to discovering who we are, who we want to be, what bring us in peace and how we can be the best we can both for ourselves and the people we love, as much as the whole world out there. If we have one big obligation for enjoying the gift of life and being here, alive, is to be the best US we can ever be. Coz, if WE don't, who else will be for us?....if we are busy trying to be like somebody else, who will be us?...there is not one single person that doesn't have the potential of being a wonderful one, in his or her own way. One basic " ingredient " to more and more reaching there, is Acceptance. Both of all the pleasures life brings to us, but also the hard times. Lately, I make posts about being grateful for a certain small thing in life. Today I 'm grateful FOR my life. ...all we need is to consider all the misfortune that billions of people are facing daily in the world....then all of us, having the luxury of spending time here, can be nothing less than simply grateful. I 'll close this post by saying that I 've decided to be donating to charity for as long as I can, 33% of the earnings of the things that I 'll be making and putting in the Etsy shop. It needs a lot of work that I still have not done....but these days are devoted to that. Every month there'll be a new cause or institution to donate to. But for the first months, I think that the people in Haiti can use all the help they can take. I know that this contribution will be close to being unworthy of calculating, but must admit that I do it also for me. I 'll be feeling better knowing that I add a slight little something and then my crafting sessions will have a deeper meaning for me and reason for doing them. There'll be an announcement about when this will exactly start. The most important thing is that proof can be provided to all of you, about the contributions actually being done to the causes we will be chosing. Suggestions are welcome. All of my life, I had been saying....if I got rich, I 'd be able to help the world...well... I have already become almost 35 and am still anything but rich, speaking of actual assets. But I feel so rich inside and am so grateful for all and everyone that is around me, that this is the right time. P.S : to those few who might be sceptic, suspicious or already critical with out actually having seen, I do inderstand but I have a plea: take a minute and look inside you first...at your mirrors, too...see?..it's not that bad : )

blogged here: http://www.thesweetestoccasion.com/2010/02/modern-ocean-inspired-table-setting/ Thank you Cyd! : ) ...as much as I love natural, calm colours, on what seems to be endless grey days, I choose such alternatives to quickly brighten up our interiors, for a more pleasant, summery feeling, especially at the start of the day. I'd rather not overdo it though, pretending that Spring is here, coz it would look unnatural. My thoughts are that much prettiness lies not only in changing our environments but also going together with them....and the same with the weather conditions. Adjustment, easiness are words that come on my mind...
...which didn't last long as it soon became grey and started snowing again. I grabbed my camera fast enough though! The table runner and matching pillow were found in autumn in a kind of €1 shop....and only hope they don't look this way! They were € 2.99and € 1.99 respectively and made from 100% cotton. I liked the colour combinations - brown / light blue / bright yellow - and the coral patterns. We should not underestimate cheap/ no name shops sometimes! I actually like to discover possible treasures in unexpected places....coz going into a super wonderful shop and findings thigs pretty is easily achievable.

-> plates -> fork +knife -> white, leather coasters ...from Habitat -> placemats -> paper napkins -> glasses ...from Ikea -> square kitchen towels, used as table runner, from H&M Home
blogged here: http://www.mydesignfolder.com/?p=3622 ...is something made with love and appreciation...no matter what... ...have redecorated the kitchen shelf above the sink... I 'm returning to my more minimalistic approaches at the moment...keeping less things out and "economising" on -colours...so here, only neutrals: ->white ->light grey ->brown ->black ->natural wood ->beige ->metal

...three raws of plexiglass squares, create a small divider under the stairs area and add a playful tone... ...the clue lies in their transparency so that they actually do not prevent at all the eye to travel to all directions, in what is actually a very small apartment. The illusion of more space and multifuntional areas is the desired outcome. Keeping the costs low, as this is a rented space, is a basis on which all interior architecture, design and styling decisions are made.

..all...you & me.... " Wir können alles schaffen"...would be the correct written version in German...I keep on making mistakes... It was only a temporary set up anyway. ....this slice of wood is used as a coaster for hot pans or...hot chocolate cake pans , as was the case today... It was given to me by a craftsman in Greece, back in 2003...he was so glad to donate it...to him it was just another one of the things he made...to me...it was / is a small treasure, which I stll cherish today, eventhough I hardly knew him....generosity and spontaneous kindness can never be forgotten...
I think this helps to understand the layout of the main space. It is actually a square and four different sections/functional areas are created by dividing the space in a cross. Counterclockwise, starting from the right: -> dining area/occasional seconf office for me -> lounge / sofa area -> little office corner ( the desk actually doesn't belong in the square, as it's placed in the nook, created from the diagonical shape of the roof ) with bookcase / media area between the small and the big Expedit units. -> reading corner/area and stairs up to the bedroom and open dressing areas. ....the tiny kitchen in placed directly behind the reading area. The bathroom is close to the entrance area with the tool unit in front of the half semicircular smaller window. Views of the entrance can be found here: www.flickr.com/photos/ivy_style33/sets/72157621632739156 and of the bathroom here: www.flickr.com/photos/ivy_style33/sets/72157622250448312 I guess it'll help more to draw the plan, so I'll do that in the next days.

Yellow trees & grey apron
Yes! I even tried this arrangement..
...and glass, vintage, pear terrarium found in Koblenz's flea market during autumn, which was forgotten in the cellar until a few days ago. I like its transparent, yet brown glass and its shape, this is why I intent to keep it empty... Everything in the picture - with the exception of the glass pear and the mini, heartshaped, wooden frames from Mallorca - is from Ikea ( including pots and plants )
...is needed even in a more minimal environment once in a while, don't you think? White, baby pink, fresh green and some golden tones....: )
Today's lesson: -> Arithmetic: 3 + 4 = 7 1 + 1 = 2 ( a very poweful team) -> Geometry: circles.....more circles....circles in a square and vertical lines. Be good...do your homework ; )
When simple, everyday aspects of life inspire decoration....coz what would we do without arithmetics...and can you imagine a world without geometry?....without shapes?....the world itself is nothing but geometry...nature is full of harmonious geometry...
This is his favourite reading corner....but the glasses are mine, as this was a fake set up for the photo shooting...emm, it'd also look a little tiny bit more messy, had it been a real documentation! Yiap!...so are things around here....
...which hosts a tiny glass vase and candleholder collection. The details of each item are described here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ivy_style33/4277982973/in/set-72157623302759922/
...and other...suspects on the surface of the shelf in the reading corner....white porcelain, ...black wood, ...silver, for the pure 925 silver bowl, the ink for the handwriting on the pot and the aluminium candlelights ...and dark or muted grey - green for the new dracaena and the succulent Also white plastic for the base of the lamp and the wooden repurposed basis of the tea candlelights ( they were photo frames) and chestnut brown velvet for the lampshade. Ikea to the rescue again! > "Ram" wooden frames painted white > lamp base & lamp shade > porcelain pots > tea candlelights > Lack 1,90cm Shelf The wooden deer is vintage and belonged to my grandfather The silver bowl is also vintage and ibelonged to my mother The black wooden box is brought from my trip to the Dominican Republic The repurposed wooden tea candle light holders were found in Habitat. The same for the browm, glass ashtray, here used as a bowl to hold daily accessories.
...and a chocolate cake/ soufle? ...and cheese & ham to go with the bread? ...and marmelade for the second half of the bread? ...indulging and enjoying food in the morning is definetely much healthier than doing so throughout the day...especially with an empty stomach, ...as the more often we eat, the more active our digestive system is, therefore really working effectively and doing what it is supposed to do... ...supply the organism with nutrients & vitamins and burn the calories. Even those times in my life that waking up so early as 5:30a.m in the morning was required, breakfast was a meal to certainly not miss and tried to enjoy as much as possible... ...back then I found that having the table set since the previous night and having made some preparations was an encouragement to not skip breakfast by saying that there isn't enough time... Quality of life doesn't only rely into living in the next more beautiful and bigger house, into having the next more fancy and modern car or which other belonging, but also and rather moslty into celebrating every moment like the treasure that it is....a real present! ...after all, such moments are carried with us wherever we are and go. Product goods definetely add to our quality of life as well, but nothing can happen unless we cherish life for the simple joys... There have been sadly so many wealthy but unhappy, unhealthy people, past my life, and so much fewer who can combine both internal and material wealth...I'm reaching slowly to the conclusion that it probably goes from inside out, in order for there to be a meaning and true happiness. What we have inside will be expressed in our realities... Did you have a nice breakfast this morning? -> Yes?...splendid! -> No?...would you probably like to try it once?
...or a magnificent sort of tea, from the shop of my dear friend Ann in Mainz. More information can be found in her blog ( www.mmmca.com/blog_anjing319/p/173013.html ), but as it's in Chinese and I suppose only a few people, taking into consideration at least my contacts, do speak the language here, you may at least enjoy the lovely pictures she makes!
...sometimes it's just great to be lost in pink, colourful plates and girl talk...so long as the man of the house doesn't need to be exposed to and suffer from it...; )
Ruccola salad: -> fresh ruccola & slices of green peppers (optional) -> a bit of salt & pepper -> a spoon of olive oil -> variety of seeds warmed up in a pan, until they start getting brown -> freshly cut permezan cheese -> dried burries ( which we did't have this time) -> and a tiny bit of balsamico Totally green, healthy and tasty : )
...pronounced as if we were saying drinn driinn! Since a cold was flirtling with me all day yesterday - tried hard to keep my chin up! -causing ugly headacahe, inabitlity to concertrate and tireness, setting the table for dinner and preparing it was the most creative part of the day. Sad but true. Green salad is full with vitamin C, so some fresh came form the grocery store, hoping to give my organism a positive boost...and it did....I have today to completely recover, as we are leaving for a short trip, on a long weekend tomorrow...and the sun will be coming out in this part of the world! Yay : )!
This time the cake offiacialy was found to be the best one ever so far! Disappeared in a flash!
...since we use daily paper napkins, the cotton napkins served as a table runner, istead of remaining unsed in the drawer...loving the pop of the numbers next to the wooven placemats :) -> cotton napkins with green numbers: h&m home -> wooven placemats: just form a shop in Wiesbaden -> wooden napkin rings, present from lovely Madhu from Malaysia -> plates: Ikea -> forks & knives: Ikea -> white paper napkins: Ikea -> leather coasters: Habitat -> glass salad bowl: Ikea -> mini sheep form : €1 shop in the neighbouhood

...and they are thin, tall and sexy! ...she came to shake the quiet waters of the Penthouse with her charming existence, ...and the only reason she's allowed to live here, in this happy menage a trois, is that she's....a table! Young, fresh & well preserved despite her being born in the 50s, she has a shiny glass surface and she celebrates mild curves in all of her existence! We both love her too much to list on the shop, but one must also earn a living in this life somehow, right? So we decided to keep her with us and give her shelter, until a new loving, stylish home is found for her.
..which reminded me a lot of the breakfast dearest Irene enjoyed some weeks ago, http://www.flickr.com/photos/cupofsnowflakes/4356701246/ having both some healthy food and some indulgences on her - lovely - table :) -> Toasted dark bread ( to be/was eaten with cheese and ham) -> Grapes -> A bowl with almonds, walnuts and raisins - remaining of yesterday's breakfast, picture of which forgot to upload - how could I ?...;-) -> Heavenly, traditional chocolate cake with fruit of the forest jam, made by my partner's father ( a real cook!), where we had lunch yesterday.
....is the title of a song from Robert Palmer I really like and couldn't have thought of a better adjective to describe this sexyness here.... In case you are wondering, we are talking about "Coctail hour", our new, 50s table..... Yes, I know...I should better get a little bit serious here....you are probably right!
....picture taken before I treated myself to this lovely tea time, which was surprisingly later repeated, with the presence of my partner...: )
...is actually a repeated pattern as it takes place much more often than just this lovely season. Living with white requires some attention - not having pets and children at the moment helps - and of course frequent cleaning procedures. The covers of these fairly old Ikea sofas have survived a few dosins of washes, as they are being washed almost every second month! Here, as being put on fresh, no previous ironing required ( chosing the "light ironing" programm in the washing mashine helps a bit though) Picture taken late inthe afternoon...
.....early yesterday morning....managed for some time....today though the skies are dark grey and heavy....short lasting showers and storm like winds are the case....a day to spend as much as possible at home.
L stands for many things as shortly discussed here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ivy_style33/4466678139/in/set-72157623302759922/ and of course: TuLips! Tha garland and letter are handmade by me, using vintage wallpaper from the Albert Van Luit company, stamped and signed in1965. The teapot is vintage and it belonged to my grandmother....loved it since I was a little girl. She also serves well as a vase occasionally :)
...Vorspeise = appetiser ---> Serano with parmezan cheese, olive oil and fresh pepper...te hee...no numbers as you see! ...again Spanish menu on our tables, but only until main course came: pasta with a white, fresh, mushroom sauce, bringing Italian culture also to our tables :) Oh! the man of the house has recently done some homeware shopping and brought this Peugeot ( as far as I was concerned, they only procuced cars and bicycles!) pepper mill ....it is transparent with metal details, it is elegant and discrete, of excellent functional design ---> I'm satisfied : )
..trully finding them to be extremely photogenic, not? ...maybe I 've been practising too much with photography and need a rest?
