here is a shot of the completed room with the slate hearth laid - www.flickr.com/photos/wonderlane/2089462975/ Repainted the existing dirty dingy old broken looking red stone fireplace white, then with lovely brown paper bag wall colors. This treatment cost less than $20 for materials. Cracks patched with fireplace stone fill. This is a very easy technique and we did it in about an hour and 1/2. First thoroughly clean the stone or brick - it should have no grease, it should feel dry. Then spackle and fill with heat resistant spackle. Let dry. Touch up. Prime with paint. Paint the base coat a color such as the paper bag brown used here. While that is still a little tacky, using an old brush, dry brush on paint and work it into the high peaks of the stone or brickwork.. We used a darker, red brown to achieve this effect. The same color was used on the entire back wall of this room. See related photos to the right in the Wonderlane photostream. This is a very easy technique in two steps that completely transformed this fireplace, gives great results and is cheap cheap cheap! After: www.flickr.com/photos/wonderlane/2090244608/ Another fireplace painted - this time from white to resemble brick http://wonderlane.blogspot.com/2007/07/before-and-after-house-renovation-in.html
Interior design by Linda Lane with client in the North Seattle area. Still in realization phase, fireplace hearth (on the left) will be black slate. Owner's existing traditional rocker (very comfortable) is senn in foreground.
Interior design by Linda Lane with Peggy, her client, in the North Seattle area. Sofa, tables, rug, pillows, paint, flooring, walls, pot lights installed in ceiling. More lamps to be added, one sideboard for CDs and a screen. Peggy found these great drum shaped tables at a Fred Meyer's store. The sofa is from JC Pennies; a great addition to this room. High sweet fashion at a low sweet price!

House renovation in Seattle Washington of kitchen, in 1930's house in Crown Hill, Seattle, Washington. Leaded crystal hanging in window for rainbow effects, and a fresh apple pie on the microwave. We refinished the existing 1930's metal sink with several hand sprayed layers of white enamel - you can not just buy this sort of feeling and it is so easy to kill it - the house is very cosy, soft and clean --hobbits love it. Hand made curtains with store bought ones on sale for $1 from Lowes.
French Hobbit country style bed with simple wooden chair. A wookie is fine here with the color pallet of orange, yellow and green. The entire room has a warm yellow glow not just due to the four new lights we installed but also due to the glow the white, yellow and gold curtains produce.
Home renovation of dining room, and connecting living room, in Seattle, Washington in the Crown Hill neighborhood with friends for a client and friend of many years.
Home renovation of small upstairs bedroom with grey cat, Nermal, on bed, in Seattle, Washington in the Crown Hill neighborhood. The simple styled honey oak dresser, by Modern Furniture, custom made in Arlington, Washington with matching bedframe. Painted white Lane chest from second hand store supports an antique French bedside lamp, and "Down East" style trash can from Ross Dress for Less. Handmade curtains tied back with ribbon. Alice in Wonderland prints ordered over the Web from www.art.com. This is in the French Country Hobbit style as the ceiling line reminds us with the cosy soft comfy feel.
House renovation in Seattle Washington of reading room with added mirror, armchair, carpet and basket. This room looks complex because the homeowner lived in this room while the house was completed and sold. Note rocking deer in mirror reflection for the one Christmas decoration.
Hallway upstairs facing north. New doors hung on new hinges and varished three times. New knewl posts and wall paper to the left and covering ceiling. New oatmeal Berber carpet throughout second floor. New handblown glass lamp from Home Depot lights Anne Geddes photo in gold frame. Looking down the hall at Modern Furniture custom made in Arlington Washington. Hand tinted and custom blended paint to match.

New oatmeal nubby Berber carpets unify top floor. This French Country Hobbit design is very warm and cosy, This room was used by foster kids. Alice in Wonderland prints ordered over the Web from www.art.com.
Upstairs hallway looking north into north bedroom, and down the staircase - all freshly painted with new carpet. This was one of the worst spaces and it became one of the best - the round post tops and end post really finished it off - very difficult to see the curvy wall paper but that just cleaned it right up. The lamp made it perfecto.
Staging for small north bedroom, with teddy bear, tea set and Alice in Wonderland quote. Creamy warm, friendy and familiar, with a little whimsy.
Staging from the kitchen cupboard in the Seattle remodel, staged for selling.
Kitchen renovation with new mirror, reflecting through back hallway and display cabinet, and new counter. That is a freshly baked apple pie on the counter ready for buyers to smell. Yum! This house was buit in the 1930's.
Doorway between the kitchen and dinning room, with small verical space storage from Ikea (under $100) Curio cabinet original to the home and owner's antique 1930's clock, with tea set on display. Understand this is not "high end interior decorating" - but the point of these photos of this little old 1930's house is that any place with decoration in mind, some planning and the right elements- no matter if really really a tight budget - inexpensive elements - combined with the owner's style and existing objects of beauty, can be refined into something memorable, comfortable, easy to clean and live in. This is especially true if the number of objects is reduced.

Renovation: Dining room into main room with cat, Tibetan carpets and Thai bench
We gussied up this small chandelier by adding the refinements of the circle at the top on the ceiling, and the cute cream on white lamp shades, with the large leaded crystal underneath to lend a bit of extra sparkle to the small dinning room. Turned it from pleasant to very nice classic to match and enhance the style of the drapes and other decor. Plastic ceiling medallan thingie $6, shades $5 each, crystal $15, and the lamp itself was $66.
Renovation: Bone china tea set in toile hutch
Glamor in a small old fashioned bathroom the light switches were replaced with fresh white ones later.
Table setting for staging house preparing for house sale in Crown Hill, Seattle, Washington, plates and silver from the owner's collection, napkins to match with Indian table cover.
Renovation: living room corner with bench and lamp Tibetan carpet
Renovation: living room curtains
Renovation: Mirror from over the sink placed above toilet with an Anthropologie French towel rack (makes the corner!)
Kitchen renovation with new mirror and display cabinet, and new counter. We found the valance downstairs and discovered it fit perfectly on top of the long open cuboard finishing it off cutely but not too much. Dishes on top owner's collection. Completing the trim around the door and a complete paint job made a huge difference in this 1930's house. Mirror visable in adjacent laundry room. Yes that is apple pie and a cup of tea.

Renovation: living room mirror, reflecting bench, Tibetan carpet, drapes, lamp, Seattle, Washington, USA
The antique French tapestry was from the owners collection. The Irish sheers were quite expensive! but really fit with the details of the room, to polish the existing feeling.
